Hidden Power Upgrade

Those who have upgraded to Elements 3 and tried to install Hidden Power tools included with The Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements 2 will find that the tools won't work in Elements 3. Adobe changed a lot of the program for Elements 3, and one upshot is that the implementation of the Hidden Power tools had to change. While there is a lot of good new material in the new book (20% more, covering new features like RAW, 16-bit and Healing), there is an option for upgrading the tools if you don't want to buy the book. This upgrade includes all of the tools from The Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements 3. The tools are available for Mac and PC and cost $14.99.

To get the tools for Elements 3, just click the Buy Now button. After purchase you will be re-directed to an FTP download. Please be sure you are using an FTP compliant browser (IE or Firefox, NOT Safari) before making your purchase or you will not be able to download the tools.

Installation instructions come with the tool package. But installation instructions and troubleshooting information also appear below.

Hidden Power Tool Upgrade Installation Instructions

1. Decompress the Hidden Power SIT or ZIP file. If you do not have a utility to decompress files, you can get one for free on the internet.

PC: http://website.lineone.net/~chris_m/

Mac: http://download.com.com/3000-2254-5040047.html

NOTE: When unzipped there should be 4 folders with the following names: PowerBonus, PowerSeparations, PowerTools1 and PowerTools2.

2. Move the four folders that were decompressed in Step 1 into the Effects Folder in Elements 3. Move the folders, not the files in the folders. The Effects folder can be found inside the Photoshop Elements program folder as follows:

PC: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 3\Previews\Effects

Mac: Applications\Adobe Photoshop Elements 3\ Previews\Effects

3. Delete the Previews Cache.

PC: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2\Previews\Cache

Mac: Applications\Adobe Photoshop Elements 2\ Previews\Cache

4. Restart Elements and rebuild the settings file. To rebuild the settings, hold down the Command+Option+Shift/Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys on the keyboard immediately after restarting the Elements program. Hold the keys down until the prompt to rebuild settings appears, and click [YES]. PC users may have to choose to go to the Editor, temporarily releasing the keys. Rebuilding settings will restore default settings and palette placements.
